Q: Can someone measure the internal distance between prongs?

1-1/2" (wall side) to 2-1/8" (at opening)

Q: do the hooks rotate so the instruments hang plumb, or are they fixed, creating stress on the neck?

You can move them to any position for hanging the guitar. The "Y" screws into the wood, you can tighten it to what ever angle you want.

Q: Could these be used for three-quarter scale guitars?

Absolutely. At the end of the day the size of the headstock is what matters ans these work perfectly for ukuleles, mandolins, and other instruments with small headstocks, so they should also work well with a 3/4 scale

yes, i believe mine came with screws as well. i'm pretty sure you can use any size screw that fits and is long enough to go into a stud.
