You just need to know what you are doing. Watch a few YouTube videos on it before carving up your instrument for modification.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars is the lack of a manual, but it’s pretty easy to install and use.I’ve used these in two cigar box ukuleles and one cigar box guitar. In each case the sound was clear and the signal was strong. The installation looks great on the straight side of a cigar box, even though the preamp is designed for the curved side of a ukulele.I have a few more because I like them. The batteries seem to last a long time.A few tips:Don’t cut the hole in the box with sharp corners. The screws need something to bite into. Try fitting the two components into some cardboard first before you cut the box!Don’t locate the preamp too close to the right side of the box because it wires come out that side and you need room to get the piezo jack in (made that mistake once)There’s no manual, so you don’t have any indication of how to install the batteries. You stack 2 CR2032 batteries, plus side up in the holder. If you want to sell the guitar, scratch a little “+” next to the holder (see photo)There’s no on/off switch. It goes on when you plug a cable into the jack.The tuner works even without a cable plugged in, and if you are connected to an amp, it mutes while you are tuning so your audience doesn’t have to hear it.

matched one on original Uke. Works great. Use a dremel style cutter, much more exact then drills and a file.

Great sounding little pickup. Easy to install and will stand toe to toe with any of the "Premium" brand pickups on Amazon.

I had a low level uke that I wanted to add electronic to. This was perfect for the l price. It works well and was fairly easy to install without a Manuel. I love that it has a decent tuner. After I installed it I ordered another one.

As stock, the unit works great. My tuner doesn't show in the little screen, but I've got other tuners, so no worries. Also, my unit works with ONE disk battery - no need to use two.Didn't get any really helpful answers in the "ask a question" so I just went for it! :-)Soldered two wires to the back of the battery unit, connected to a two-resistor voltage divider and now I can run this off 9v. Works great!Why? Because I'm going to put this in a box with input and output jacks and power it from my pedalboard power supply. Now I don't have to unplug to save battery life, plus I can use this with any of my instruments because it's not permanently installed in just one of them.Overall a great unit.
