Great tomahawk for firefighters/first responders. Great value in a survival hawk.
When I bought this hawk I already owned a SOG FastHawk, which I had bought primarily as a throwing hawk which it excels at. I was interested in the longer cutting edge, more aggressive bottom "hook", and pommel on the VooDoo hawk as a fighting/survival hawk and to see if it could be thrown as easy as the FastHawk. The hawk cuts well right out of the package although a little sharpening greatly improved this and I did reshaped the contour on the piercing point to increase penetration, all in all about 30 minutes work with a stone and file. The hawk throws well, after you get used to the pommel sliding thru your hand and removal of the pommel, quite easy, improved this ability but unless throwing is your primary use for this hawk I'd leave it on as it provides for a much more secure grip when performing other jobs with it.This hawk is almost indestructible with over 300 throws into and against the butt end of a 26" log, not all of them stuck as intended, with no loosening of the handle or damage to the blade. The short handle makes it easy to pack in almost any method you choose and still provides striking power for any job you would choose this type of tool for. It chops well and pierces both cinder blocks and steel doors with ease and will take out a car window with one good tap. The only "con" i have is the sheath, which protects both the blade and you quite well, is unuseable one-handed without risking injury. I still gave the hawk 5 stars because I didn't buy it for the sheath. There are aftermarket sheaths available if you require one-handed capability.I'm a retired firefighter with 28 years of service and 18 years of service as a LEO in various capacities. I highly recommend this hawk as an addition to any firefighters utility belt, manys the time I could have used it and having this tool in a squad car could save many lives on emergency scenes where minor extrication is needed fast and the police arrive first, and they almost always do.

Awesomeness in an axe
Perfect. The axe is well balanced, a great size, and incredibly perfect for outdoors. For those waiting for the zombie apocalypse, this may not be your first choice in tools. You undead enemy would have to be way too close for comfort. For those looking for a great outdoor tool, this is well made, solid, and will do the job.

Beautiful, tough, but not perfect.
First off I bought this piece because of the beauty of the axe head design, and possibly to throw around in the yard. I have thrown it around and the handle has some wobble to it, I attempted to tighten it but it still wobbled a bit by design. The head is cast which is how they got the logo in, I find that interesting. It is indeed tough, I threw it bad once and it bounced on the road twice, but I couldn't find any damage or even a scratch. Overall, it's a good buy in my opinion you get more than you pay for at the $38 I paid.

Super light and functional - not a very good sheath
I had originally rated this as a 5 star but now that I've used it in more situations I can't rate it is a top product. The hatchet (axe, tomahawk..) is great. I use it for trail clearing so it gets plenty of hard use. It is very light weight and works great. It's arrived very sharp and the blade is designed so it works well with standard knife sharpeners. The problem is the sheath. When I carry the axe on my belt I position it just behind the midpoint of the side of my waist. This way it doesn't get in the way when I'm walking and doesn't get caught up in bushes or branches. It's extremely hard for me to get the hawk back in the sheath - this is due to poor design and the fact that it is made from pretty cheap and flimsy material.I've now cut myself 6 times while struggling to get it back into the holder - the handle slides into the hole just fine but the sharp end of the product doesn't easily fit back into the "pocket". I'm pretty sure this would not be a problem had SOG not scrimped so much on the quality of the sheath and used a better (stiffer) material or designed a form factor that worked better in the real world (I don't think it's really practical to carry this on your side - it has to be carried well behind your front pocket area).I really like the utility and durability of the tool and don't regret my purchase but it's a shame the price didn't include a decent solution for carrying the product on your waist. If you are going to carry the axe in a pack the sheath won't be a problem - it works fine if you can use two hands. It just won't work with one hand and you will struggle twisting around to use both hands if you carry this behind the midpoint of your waist.Perhaps this is a bit nit-picky but I wish I had known about it before I purchased the product so I thought I would give a "heads-up" review.

Small Tomahawk
This is a small tomahawk, useful for light chopping. I like the stainless steel for rust resistance. The handle is comfortable and the balance is good. The pommel adds a bit of counterweight compared to some other designs. It’s also compact, so easier to carry, store or swing compared to others. If you want something ultra durable and about the same size, look into the Estwing tomahawk. If you’re looking for something intimidating or lightweight and easy to use, this might be for you.

Where She Going This Time?
As far as tomahawks go...this one is a beauty. It came razor sharp...and super polished. Just don't try and throw it unless you're an expert. The pummel at the bottom of the handle catches on my fingers as I release it...thus sending the hawk flying off in all kinds of directions but the one I intended.EDIT: 2017-12-24. Was using the tomahawk today and the head sheared off at the first rivet. The steel inside was of a different consistency on each side of the rivet. Currently awaiting help from Amazon to see if SOG will repair and/or replace this hawk using its "Limited Lifetime Warranty". More to follow....
