Absolutely!! I use mine flawlessly with Recalbox.

Q: Would this work on an Nvidia Shield TV Pro (Android) running a Megadrive emulator? PS4 works ok but would prefer an original style wired controller

I just plugged it in and then selected the controller from the settings

Q: Says it's compatible with steam, but will it work with gog games also?

It will work the same as any generic USB game pad would.

Q: does the d-pad has issues with diagonals like the 8Bitdo M30?

No problems with my experience. Easy to play Street Fighter etc.
